General Visa Requirements

  • Original passport valid for at least six months
  • Correct visa fee
  • Two Recent passport-size photographs (five photographs in case of Pakistani nationals)
  • Supporting documents, where necessary
  • Duly completed application form (Pakistani nationals need to apply on special application forms)


Processing time for visa applications will normally be one working day.

Visa Application

Visas can be applied for in person at the Embassy of India, Zagreb. Applicants not ordinarily resident in Croatia and Sri Lankan nationals are required to complete an additional form. Pakistani nationals have to fill special visa application forms.

In the following cases processing of applications will take longer:

  • Croatian nationals holding dual nationality or of other origin
  • Applicants not resident in Croatia
  • Where clearance from India is mandatory
  • Visitors to restricted areas
  • Certain cases where documents may need to be verified

 

Please note that each application is examined individually and the time taken for issuing visas will vary from case to case.

Visitors to restricted/protected areas in India need special permits and for this purpose an additional form has to be completed. Please contact the Consular Section of this Embassy, if you wish to ascertain whether any of the places you intend to visit fall in the category of restricted/protected areas.

All types of visa application forms can be obtained free of charge from the Consular section of Embassy of India, Zagreb, Croatia from 10.00a.m. to 12.00p.m. on working days.

Types of Visas

Specific visas are granted for a variety of purposes. The principal types of visas issued are Tourist Visa, Business visa, Student and employment visa, Transit visa and Entry visa. Please contact the Consular Section of Embassy of India, Zagreb for further details if you are visiting India for purposes other than tourism, such as journalism, conferences, yoga, voluntary work, mountaineering or other expeditions. The visa application form is, however, the same. Separate forms are available for Pakistani Nationals.

Tourist Visa

Tourists wishing to visit India are normally granted short-term tourist visas, effective from the date of issue. Tourist visas are non-extendible and non-convertible. Travel agents who have to visit India frequently may be granted tourist visas for a longer duration.

The Government of India has decided to extend the "tourist visa-on-arrival" (TVOA) scheme to tourists from Cambodia, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar with effect from 01 January 2011. The scheme is available for citizens of Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore since 01 January 2010.

TVOA scheme visas shall be granted by Immigration Officers at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata airports and shall be valid for a maximum of 30 days with single entry facility.

Student and Employment Visa

Student visas can be obtained on furnishing proof of admission to recognised universities/institutions in India. Employment visas can also be obtained on furnishing of proof of employment with companies in India.

Transit Visa

Transit visas are valid for halts of up to 72 hours in India within 15 days from the date of issue of the visa and must be obtained before departure. Transit Visas cannot be obtained from immigration counters at ports of entry in India. Evidence of onward travel to a destination outside India is required.

Business Visa

Business Visas are normally granted for a minimum period of one year. However, multiple-entry Business Visas for up to two years validity may be granted to technicians/experts going to India in pursuance of bilateral agreements or joint venture projects having government approval.

Entry Visa

Long Term/Entry Visas are issued to persons of Indian origin for duration of up to five years. These can be obtained, depending on the purpose of visit and eligibility, on a case-by-case basis.  
Please note that persons holding long-term visas (having validity exceeding six months) are normally not expected to stay in India more than six months during each visit. Please refer to the link further down for requirement to register with the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO)/Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in India.

Journalist visa (JV ):

Journalists can obtain single entry visas valid for three months and should submit supporting documentation, i.e., an employment card or original letter from a reputed news/media agency which has given them the assignment in India.

Medical visa:

A medical visa is given to those who are travelling to India for medical treatment. The visa can be single/multiple entry. Please note that relevant documents explaining details of the treatment and confirming the need for an escort are also required.

Medical escort visa (MX):

A medical escort visa is given to those who are accompanying a patient travelling to India for medical treatment on a medical visa. This visa can be given to a close relative/family member or a friend of the patient. Please note that relevant letters/documents explaining details of the treatment are also required.

Missionary visa (M):

Applicants planning to visit India for religious purposes shall be issued single entry missionary visa valid for the duration approved by the Government of India. A letter from the sponsoring organization in Croatia and India indicating intended destination in India, expected length of stay, and nature of work to be discharged should be attached with the application form along with a guarantee for the applicant's maintenance while in India.

Research visa (RV):

Research Visas are given to Professors or Scholars, who wish to conduct research work in India. Applicants are required to obtain prior permission to conduct research project in India from the concerned authorities. Applicants are requested to apply at least six weeks before their date of departure to India and visas will be valid for entry into India four weeks after issue. Validity of the visa would coincide with the research period.
   
Please note: Grant of visa does not confer the right of entry to India and is subject to the discretion of the Immigration Authorities.

Registration with FRO/FRRO

Persons of Indian origin holding multiple entry X-visas, visiting India to meet relatives or for social purposes, are required to register with the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) / Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of first arrival only if they intend to stay continuously for more than six months. This registration is required during the first visit after the visa is issued. Subsequent travels using the same visa do not require registration. Children below the age of 16 years are exempt from this requirement. All other visitors to India, including those of Indian origin, holding any other category of visa valid for more than six months should register with the FRO/FRRO within 14 days of arrival in India.

Visa Fee and Additional Charges

Visa fees are non-refundable and subject to change without notice. The Embassy of India, Zagreb reserves the right on granting and deciding type/duration of visa irrespective of the fees tendered at the time of making application. Granting of visa does not confer the right of entry to India and is subject to the discretion of the Immigration Authorities.

Visa fee is required to be deposited in cash along with Visa Application Forms at the Embassy. .

Frequently asked questions

1. Where can I find the visa application form and what should I keep in mind when filling it?

The Indian visa application form- is available at the Embassy and also on the Embassy website under the topic Forms. Please note that no column should be left blank while filling up the form.  An incomplete application will be rejected.

 2. I am applying for a tourist visa. What do I need in addition to the application form?

In addition to the correctly filled Indian visa application form you need two passport size photographs, valid passport, itinerary/airline booking details and fee when submitting your application. Passport will have to be left in the Embassy for the duration of visa processing.

 3. My child's name is included in my passport. Can she/he travel on the same visa?

 Yes, a child who is included in the parents’ passport can travel on the same visa. In this case a photograph of the child should be attached to the parent’s application.

4. I am applying for a business visa. What do I need in addition to the application form?

 In addition to tourist visa requirements (as explained in question 2)   two documents are required.

  • Employer’s letter, in which the essential information concerning your business trip is explained.
  • Invitation from the Indian partner/company, which must be signed (faxed or scanned copy is accepted)

  
5. How about the fees? How much does a visa cost and how can I pay? 

Detailed information on the fees can be found under the subtitle Visa fees and additional charges. All persons holding a passport other than Croatian, or persons with Croatian passport but not born in Croatia will be charged Kuna 50 as Service Charges in addition to standard visa fee. The fee is required to be paid in cash along with the application.   

6. Can I apply for visa by mail? 

No, all visa applications are to be submitted in the consular counter between 1000 and 1200 hours on a working day.

7. How do I get my passport back in case I cannot pick it up myself? 

It is possible that an authorized person comes to pick up your passport along with the receipt or a citation of authority from you to collect the passport on your behalf.  

8. How long does it take to get a visa?

The processing time is normally one working day (for Croatian nationals born in Croatia). For person holding passports of other countries or Croatian nationals not born in Croatia, the processing time is a minimum of four working days.

9. What if there is an emergency or need for an urgent processing?

In case you need a visa urgently, you can apply for Emergency Visa. Emergency visa can be granted only to Croatian nationals born in Croatia and the emergency fee is Kuna 135, which is added to the standard visa fee. When applying for an emergency visa, a letter in English explaining the urgency must be submitted in addition to other documents mentioned above. Also copies of travel documents (tickets or reservation confirmation) should be submitted if possible. 

10. When can I come to submit my applications at the Embassy?

The Embassy is open for submitting documents/applications as follows:

11. When can I come to pick up my passport/documents?

The Embassy is open for collecting passports/documents as follows:

1. Gdje mogu pronaći formular za vizu i na što moram paziti tijekom ispunjavanja?

Formular za indijsku vizu dostupan je u veleposlanstvu i na web stranici veleposlanstva pod Forms. Kod ispunjavanja formulara nemojte ostavljati prazne rubrike. Nepotpune prijave neće se uvažiti.

2. Tražim turističku vizu. Što moram priložiti uz formular?

Uz pravilno ispunjen formular morate priložiti dvije fotografije veličine kao za putovnice, važeću putovnicu, kopiju avionske karte ili rezervacije i uplatiti cijenu vize kod predaje zahtjeva. Putovnica mora ostatati u veleposlanstvu za vrijeme obrade zahtjeva.

3. Ime mojeg djeteta nalazi se u mojoj putovnici. Može li on/ona putovati s mojom vizom?

Da, dijete koje je upisano u putovnicu roditelja može koristiti istu vizu. U tom slučaju fotografiju djeteta treba priložiti formularu roditelja.

4. Tražim poslovnu vizu. Što moram priložiti uz formular?

Uz dokumente potrebne za turističku vizu (koji su opisani u odgovoru na 2. pitanje) potrebna su još 2 dokumenta:

  • pismo poslodavca u kojem su opisane ključne informacije o vašem poslovnom posjetu.
  • pozivno pismo iz Indije od poduzeća/partnera kojeg posjećujete. Pismo mora biti potpisano (prihvaćamo faksirane ili skenirane kopije).

5. Što je s naknadama? Koliko košta viza i kako napraviti uplatu?

Detaljne informacije o naknadama možete naći na web stranici veleposlanstva pod naslovom Visa fees and additional charges. Sve osobe koje posjeduju putovnice drugih država i hrvatski državljani koji nisu rođeni u Hrvatskoj moraju platiti dodatnih 50 Kuna uz cijenu vize. Naknadu morate uplatiti u gotovini kod predaje formulara.

6. Mogu li zatražiti vizu poštom?

Ne. Svi zahtjevi za vizu moraju se predati u konzularni odjel veleposlanstva radnim danom između 10.00 i 12.00 sati.

7. Kako mogu preuzeti svoju putovnicu, u slučaju da nisam u mogućnosti doći osobno?

Možete ovlastiti drugu osobu da pokupi vašu putnovicu. Osoba mora imati račun koji vam izdaje veleposlanstvo kod uplate naknade za vizu ili pismeno ovlaštenje da može umjesto vas podići putovnicu.

8. Koliko treba čekati da se dobije viza?

Vrijeme obrade zahtjeva za osobe koje imaju samo hrvatsku putovnicu i rođene su u Hrvatskoj je jedan radni dan. Vrijeme obrade zahtjeva za osobe s putovnicama drugih država ili osobe s hrvatskim putovnicama koje nisu rođene u Hrvatskoj je četiri radna dana.

9. Što napraviti ako je viza potrebna hitno?

Postoji mogućnost podnošenja zahtjeva za žurno izdavanje vize. Taj zahtjev mogu podnjeti samo osobe s hrvatskom putovnicom koje su rođene u hrvatskoj. Potrebno je nadoplatiti 135 Kuna na cijenu vize i priložiti pismo na engleskom jeziku koje opisuje razlog za žurno izdavanje vize.

10. Kada mogu predati zahtjev?

Veleposlanstvo prima zahtjeve za vizu radnim danom od 10.00 do 12.00 sati.

11. Kada mogu podići svoju putovnicu?

Veleposlanstvo izdaje putovnice radnim danom od 16.00 do 16.30 sati.
